Meet Rene Mandin

My name is Rene Mandin, and I am running for Oakton College trustee because I believe that education is the foundation of opportunity. As a dedicated public servant and union representative, I have spent years advocating for educators, public employees, and the communities they serve. I am committed to ensuring that Oakton College remains a place where students, faculty, and staff have the resources and support they need to succeed.

Why I Am Running

I am running for trustee to make education at Oakton more affordable, accessible, and effective for every student. No one should have to choose between their education and financial security. If elected, I will work to strengthen student support programs that provide the tools and guidance necessary for academic and career success. Every student—no matter their background—should have access to mentorship, career pathways, and financial resources that help them reach their full potential.

Beyond supporting students, I believe that faculty and staff are the backbone of Oakton College. As trustee, I will advocate for fair wages, professional development, and a strong working environment for educators. Investing in our faculty means investing in our students, and I will work to ensure Oakton remains a place where talented educators want to teach, mentor, and inspire the next generation.

I also understand the importance of bridging the gap between education and the workforce. Students should leave Oakton not only with a degree but with real-world skills and career opportunities. I will work to expand internship programs, career training, and partnerships with local businesses and industries, ensuring students are prepared for meaningful careers.

Additionally, fiscal responsibility and transparency are critical for any institution, and Oakton College is no exception. As trustee, I will ensure that every dollar is spent with students and faculty in mind while keeping the college financially strong for the future.
